KALAMAZOO FLOWER GROUP SUSTAINABILITY GOALS:
Water and Resources
- Reduce water usage (through recycling, runoff control, controlled watering, and usage).
- Develop storm water management and prevention plan to implement in 2011, with process and
participation to be evaluated annually.
- Work with greenhouse growers to promote and encourage the use of IPM, and sustainable growing
practices.
Energy
- Walk-through energy audits performed by all committed greenhouse growers by year-end 2011.
Resend energy self assessment tool to growers.
- Update growers’ on energy incentive plans for upgrades and help identify funds to help growers for
environmental/energy improvements.
Packaging, Waste, and Recycling
- Enroll key customers in recycling program by year-end. (2011)
- Have 20% of plastic sent to customers returned for recycling. (2011)
- Determine base level in shipping waste and develop strategies to help growers reduce that waste,
and/or recycle it. (2011)
Transportation
- Identify areas that may be useful in reduction of fuel use.
Facility/Environmental Impact
- Develop strategy to reduce overall carbon footprint of operations in 2011.
- Increase levels of on-site renewable energy by 10% over the next 10 years.
Social/Community/Labor
- Develop annual sustainability report, process to begin in September, and published electronically at
same time as annual fiscal report.
- Electronically publish a quarterly sustainability newsletter to communicate to and educate employees
and customers on sustainability programs, progress, and ideas.
- Help identify groups that may be a source for seasonal help in local greenhouse operations.

efficient in growing greenhouse products (Dennis, 2011)
Further, our Sustainable Floriculture production also aims to reduce environmental degradation, maintain
productivity, promote economic viability, conserve resources and energy, and maintain stable communities
